Appeal: Robbery, Bradford Road, East Bierley

Friday January 15, 2015

Police are appealing for information after a 85-year-old woman was pushed to the floor and robbed of her handbag in East Bierley.

The robbery happened between 12.45pm and 1pm on Saturday, 9 January, on the driveway of a property in Bradford Road. A man approached the victim, has spoken at her in a raised voice and then pushed her to the chest causing her to fall to the ground. The man grabbed the victim's handbag and makes off on foot but was stopped by another man who was able to get the handbag back and return it to the victim.

The suspect is described as a white man, aged in his late 20s to early 30s, between 5ft 9ins and 5ft 10ins tall, clean shaven, with scarring to the face.

Detective Constable Andy Clayton, of Kirklees District CID, said: "This was an unprovoked attack on an elderly woman which has understandably left her concerned and shaken. Thankfully there was a member of the public in the area who has seen what has happened and been able to recover the handbag.

"We would like to hear from anyone else who has witnessed this offence or seen anyone behaving suspiciously in the area. The man is reported to have shouted or screamed at the victim prior to robbing her and this may have attracted people's attention.

"Anyone with information is asked to call Kirklees District CID via 101 or independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
