Don't Give It To Thieves On A Plate

Wednesday 24 October 2012

Motorists in Bingley are being urged to take advantage of an initiative which will prevent them from becoming victims of registration plate theft.

Local Neighbourhood Policing Team officers are offering free tamper proof screws which will be fitted to vehicles at an event on Friday 26 October.

It takes place at the town’s train station between 9am and noon.

PCSO Debbie Williams of the Bingley and Worth Valley Neighbourhood Policing Team hopes people will take up the opportunity:

"Ultimately, we hope to reduce the crime associated with these thefts. These special screws are designed in such a way, that though easily screwed in, they cannot then be removed with a screwdriver.

"A few minutes of your time could save you hours of potential heartache in the future.

"It can be a frustrating experience for anyone who has their plates stolen, as replacing them and dealing with the consequences can be a particularly time consuming process.

"Criminals may try to use number plates to mask the identity of a vehicle which is then used to committ offences, such as stealing fuel.

"Protect your vehicle from attack against these thieves and help us to tackle this issue. By working together we can prevent offences from occurring in the first place.

"Likewise, if you have any information as to the location of stolen number plates or can assist us in our enquiries to find those committing these offences we would ask that you get in touch immediately.

"You can call us using the non emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111."
