E-fit Appeal: Elderly Cleckheaton Man Defrauded Out Of Thousands Of Pounds
Tuesday, 19 January, 2016
Police investigating a fraud offence in which an elderly Cleckheaton man was conned out of several thousand pounds have released an e-fit image of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the offence.
The 86-year-old victim had been having roofing work carried out on his property in The Villas, Howard Park, Cleckheaton. Between 10.45am and 10.55am on Monday, 11 January, a man called at his door claiming to work for the company carrying out the work. The victim let him in and, when the man advised that he needed to pay money upfront for the work, has handed over cash. The pensioner has later spoken to the company carrying out the work who advised that the man who called at his door was not one of their employees.
The suspect is described as an Asian or mixed race man, aged between 30 and 35-years-old, around 6ft tall, of slim build, with dark hair and beard. He was wearing a light-coloured rain coat.
Police Constable Mark Jones, of Batley and Spen Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "We would like to hear from anyone who recognises the man pictured or who saw a man matching the suspect's description in the Howard Park area around the time of this offence.
"Anyone with information is asked to please call the Batley and Spen Neighbourhood Policing Team via 101, quoting reference 13160014205."
