Early Hours Motorway Closure After Horse Dies on M1.
Saturday 24 November, 2012.
At 5:38am this morning police were called to the M1 southbound near J39 after a collsion between a car and two horses.
Six horses from a nearby field had got onto the slip road of the southbound M1 at junction 39 resulting in the collision between a Vauxhall Corsa and two of the horses.
One of animals died at the scene, a second was seriously injured and had to put down by an armed officer after the remaining horses had been returned to a nearby field.
The driver of the Corsa was not injured by the collision.
The motorway was closed for a short period while the dead horse was removed from the scene but a local diversion between the two slip roads was put in place to keep disruption to a minimum.
