Fatal Road Traffic Collision, A650 Wakefield

Officers have today named a man who died in last week's road traffic collision on the A650 near Carr Gate in Wakefield.

The deceased man is Mohammed Ashfaq, 53, from Batley.

Enquiries are still ongoing.

Drivers are being urged to avoid the A650 near Carr Gate in Wakefield this evening following a fatal road traffic collision.

Emergency services were called to the A650 at the junction of Kenmore Road on at about 4.10pm after a man and a lorry were in collision.

The man sadly suffered fatal injuries as a result of the incident and was pronounced to have died at the scene.

Police investigations are currently ongoing at the scene and the A650 is closed in both directions from the Vine Tree roundabout for traffic heading out of Wakefield and from the Carr Gate turn off heading into the city.

Drivers heading inbound on the A650 into Wakefield are being diverted via the Carr Gate turn off into Wrenthorpe.

Sgt Ann Drury of the Major Collision Enquiry Team, said: "Enquiries are ongoing into this incident and we are appealing for any witnesses to the collision itself. We would also like to speak with anyone who saw the man or the lorry just prior to the collision.

"Officers are working to recover vehicles and complete enquiries at the site and we thank drivers for their patience while this very necessary work is completed following what has been a tragic incident. We do hope to re-open the A650 in the next hour or so.

" I would ask any witnesses who can assist our enquiries to contact the Major Collision Enquiry Team on 101."
