Last Chance To Apply For This Years Explorer Programme
Thursday, 11 October, 2012
Time is almost running out for budding young crime-fighters to experience the inner workings of West Yorkshire Police.
The closing date for applications for this year's Explorers Programme is fast approaching and anyone interested is urged to get in touch.
The 23 week programme sees 16-18 year olds gaining an exciting insight into different aspects of policing across the county.
It starts in January 2013 and will enable successful candidates to explore the work of Neighbourhood Policing, Operations Support, Forensics, Homicide and Major Enquiry, Roads Policing and Crime Prevention to name but a few.
They will also be given the opportunity to support their local neighbourhood policing teams and get involved with their communities.
Explorers will be required to attend their local police station for two hours on Wednesday evening each week where they will take part in an interactive programme.
Community Engagement Officer, Simon Philips, said: “There are only two weeks left to apply for the 2013 Explorers Programme and would urge anyone thinking of applying to get in touch.
"Many young people at this stage in their life are unsure about what career path they would like to take and the Explorer Programme offers a unique behind-the-scenes look into 21st Century policing which is ideal for anyone considering the Police Service as a future career.
"It also offers opportunities to get involved in their communities, and at the same time helps them develop skills they will require in later life.”
Scott Black, North West Leeds 2012 Explorer of the Year said: "I have thoroughly enjoyed the Explorer programme and have gained a really valuable insight into the workings of West Yorkshire Police. I have also gained a great deal of confidence which will help in other areas of my life. I would recommend the course to anyone who is interested in the work of the police. Its a really enjoyable experience."
The deadline for applications is Wednesday, 31st October, 2012.
