Summer Camp Back In Bradford
Thursday 26 July 2012
The hugely successful American style summer camp is back in Bradford.
It brings together teenagers from across the area into an action packed week of fun which begins from 20th August 2012.
Officers from the local Neighbourhood Policing Team have been working closely with Bradford College to design various diversionary events to be held at the Trinity Green Campus on Easby Road.
They’re now calling on 9 to 15 year olds to get involved at a 'sign up' event which takes place on Saturday 28th July at the City Hall Police Contact Point on Centenery Square, between 1pm and 4pm.
Eighteen different partnership organisations are involved providing programmes, workshops and activities.
Police Community Support Officer, Chris Cahill of the Bowling, Barkerend and Bradford Moor says it is important to give young people something to do during their holidays:
"Typically low level crime and anti social behaviour can peak during periods of extended school holidays. We intend to engage with young people through offering the support of positive community role models in various mediums they understand and enjoy.
"There are many activities already available to young people over the summer holidays, however, often they do not realise they are there. We will be able to give them something to do and a place to go.
"This year we expect upto 240 teenagers to come along, getting involved in a wide variety of sport, computer gaming, team building, assault courses and swimming.
"Working with young people in this setting allows us to develop a relationship with those we work with, promoting trust and confidence in neighbourhood policing is a key priority. The kids love it, their parents love it and we love it."
Bradford College Lecturer Nosheen Qamer who has worked with West Yorkshire Police for the last two years to organise the camp said:
"This year we are very excited to host the event for the first time in our state of the art facilities at Trinity Green. All staff and attendees love the Police Summer Camp and we look forward to hosting the biggest and best camp to date."
