Wakefield Police Seek Suggestions For Renaming Competition to Find Talented Youngsters
Tuesday September 4, 2012
Children and parents are being asked to put their thinking caps on this September to rename a Police competition set to seek out top artistic talent in Wakefield.
Officers from the Wakefield Central NPT are calling on residents to get involved in the return of the competition which was known last year as Rural’s Got Talent, but is to return bigger and better this autumn under a new name.
Police are inviting members of communities to think of a new name for the 'talent show' now covering the whole area of Wakefield.
The winner will be given £250 to donate to their chosen charity.
The scheme will allow pupils up to 18 years of age the opportunity to showcase their often unique talents and to express themselves artistically to a wide audience, to help divert young people from anti social behaviour.
For 2012, each NPT will visit schools within their area to select one winning act to go through to an area final.
The competition itself will again feature area finals and acts from each of these will be selected to represent their NPT in a grand final in March 2013.
Acts can include solo vocalists, dance groups, gymnasts, instrumentalists, boy bands, girl bands, magicians, comedians, duets, amateur dramatics, impressionists and much more.
Inspector Richard Close of Wakefield Central NPT, said: “The event last year was absolutely fantastic and was a real demonstration of the sort of talent young people posses in our area.
“We set up the competition to help provide opportunities for our youngsters and divert them away from anti social behaviour and the feedback we had from schools, parents and youngsters themselves showed this was very well received.
“This year we are seeking to make the new event bigger and better than before and want residents to get involved right from the off to help us find a new name for it.
“ This will be is a real community event and we are all looking forward to residents making it a success with us in 2012-13.”
Anyone who wants to suggest a name for the new talent show should drop an email to the Wakefield Central NPT mailbox or facebook site by Wednesday September 12, with their suggestion and contact details. Alternatively on voicemail 01924 293282.
