Divisional Profile

North West Leeds Division is based in the north and west of Leeds.
It stretches to the edge of the city centre in the south incorporating the University of Leeds and Leeds Metropolitan University and a large youthful student population in communities including Burley, Headingley and Woodhouse.

To the north it reaches Otley and includes the county’s gateway to the world – Leeds/Bradford International Airport which is continuing to expand in both international and domestic air traffic. In the west of the division are the busy communities of Pudsey, Armley and Bramley as well as Farsley, Calverley and Rodley.

Home to Yorkshire County Cricket and the Leeds Rhinos, the division’s population is boosted regularly by the large influx of people visiting the Headingley Stadium for rugby league and test cricket matches. There is also an increasing commercial and leisure sector with new sports complexes, retail parks, leisure centres, cinemas and night-clubs being attracted to the area.

It also houses one of the largest remand prisons in the country at HMP Leeds.

Welcome to the Neighbourhood Policing website for North West Leeds Division. I am Chief Superintendent Ian Whitehouse, the Divisional Commander. It is my responsibility to deliver the best possible policing service to anyone who lives in, works in or visits our Division.

To do this I have designed our services so that Neighbourhood Policing is at the heart of everything we do. This means local Officers
and staff having local ownership of your problems.

On the left of the screen you can see our Neighbourhood Policing Teams (NPT’s) that work right across the Division. You will also see details of when your next public forum is to be held, known as Police and Community Together (PACT) meetings. We really want you to become involved in your neighbourhood. Your input is vital to our work. It is the strengthening of this bond that will ensure you get the policing service you need and expect.

This approach to Neighbourhood Policing is really making an impact. It is extremely satisfying for my staff when you take the time to write to us to thank us for what we have done. These letters are increasing which is a reflection of how hard the teams are working for you. I’m proud of the work we do and you should rest assured in the knowledge that they are working hard around the clock every day to look after you.

We can however only do so much and we really rely on you helping yourselves. Now that we have entered the winter months we really need you to stay security conscious and ensure thieves and burglars remain locked out of your home.

All we ask is that you follow some simple advice such as leaving lights on when you are out, fitting timer lights, security lights and locking doors and windows. If you want to know how to get these items, please contact your NTP.

We say goodbye and thank you to Chief Inspector Scott Bisset and DCI Phil Wiggins and hello and welcome to two new members to our Command Team, Chief Inspector Steve Emmett and DCI Andy Williams.

I know that Andy and Steve are committed to tackling crime and they recognise the challenge ahead. We have already reduced crimes by 629 offences this year and they are both committed to making our neighbourhoods even safer as we go forward.
