Council Tax Scam

Please be aware of a scam that could be in your area. Should you receive a call advising you that you are entitled to a council tax refund and you are asked for your bank details to receive this, DO NOT GIVE YOUR BANK DETAILS. This is a scam. The telephone number the call may come from is 0034009054.

CASH WINDFALL UP FOR GRABS TO TACKLE LOCAL ISSUES

Work to prevent crime and disorder will be boosted by the West Yorkshire Police Community Trust.

The Community Trust has funds of up to £2,500 up for grabs in its latest grants round and gives local community/voluntary groups the chance to apply for funding to support their valuable work in addressing the issues identified by local communities.

A total of £50,000 worth of funding has been allocated to this grant round and applications are sought from community and volunteer groups as well as charities and other non-profitable organisations that can make a positive difference to their communities.

The deadline for submitting your applications is Friday 10 September 2010 and all applications must be endorsed by an officer from your local Neighbourhood Policing Team. To ensure endorsement is received prior to the closing date we suggest you make contact with your Neighbourhood Policing Team three weeks prior to the closing date.

Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application by mid October and receive their grants at an Awards Night in late November.

To apply, call 01924 292646 or email communitytrust@westyorkshire.pnn.police.uk

The West Yorkshire Police Community Trust provides grants to voluntary and community groups within the county to support activities that help in the reduction of crime and anti-social behaviour. Community/voluntary groups are urged to visit www.westyorkshire.police.uk/communitytrust for information on the next grant round where they can apply for funding.

Mobile Phones

On Friday 11th of June, officers from NPT1 were in Silsden to combat mobile phone use by motorists. Two fixed penalty notices were issued. Further enforcement dates are planned.

                           NUMBER PLATE INITIATIVE

THE NUMBER’S UP FOR THIEVES PLEASE HELP US STOP THIS CRIME

The West Yorkshire Police are committed to tackling car crime. The stealing of registration plates from cars raises concerns both for the Police and the car owner if the registration plates are then used in crime.

To combat this Airedale and North Bradford Police are offering to change the standard screws used to hold most plates onto the car with security screws. This process takes approximately 10 minutes of your time but will help to protect you and your vehicle from becoming a target.

Mobile Phone & Data Technology Whilst Out On The BEAT

All of our Police Officers and PCSOs on the Neighbourhood Policing Teams (NPTs) in the West Yorkshire Police, have been issued with 'Blackberry' mobile phones with full email messaging and data transfer facilities. This enables them to send and receive important operational information relating to their work whilst on patrol in your community. Officers are able to immediately update our Intelligence and Operations Departments and respond to new information received whilst out on patrol. The Blackberries will be in addition to the traditional Police radios.

"So if you see an officer busily texting whilst standing on a street corner or sitting in a police car, please don't assume that they are arranging for their tea, they will actually be gainfully employed updating the systems in our organisation".

Crime Reduction

Our local NPT Offficers have been out and about in the Silsden area delivering leaflets to households offering advice on how to keep your home safe and secure. Unfortunately, we have run out of switches, however they can be purchased at any local hardware store.

Parking on Canal Bridge. Please be aware!

Letters have been sent to all residents and businesses within the double white line system in place. The letters are advising them of the legislation covering illegal parking and that if they continue to do so, offenders will be issued with an endorsable fixed penalty notice which will result in a £60 fine and 3 endorsement points on their driving licence. We are also aware that people using the shops/pub in this area are also offenders and will be dealt with in the same manner. If you are unsure of what the legislation covers, please contact either your local PCSO or Michelle at Ilkley Police Station on 01274 475307.

Since the warning letters have been issued throughout the premises neighbouring the double white line system, over 9 fixed penalty notices have been issued to drivers still parking there.

Horsewatch Scheme.

The Force re-launched  Horsewatch on Sunday 26th April at the Eldwick Show in Bingley.

The re-launch was in response to  enquiries from members of the public experiencing occurrences of equine related crime, i.e. theft of tack/equipment and trailers.

Each area of the Force has a single point of contact who will act as liaison officer for their respective areas. Details of local contacts can be found on the new Horsewatch page of the Force website. www.westyorkshire.police.uk/horsewatch.

Be aware of Lottery Scams

There has recently been an increase in people receiving letters in the post saying that they have won a substantial amount of money on the Lottery. The letter explains how you have come to win this money and how to claim for your winnings.
Accompanying the letter is a Payment process requesting personal details including bank details. DO NOT FILL THIS IN.
If you receive any of these letters telephone the following number and report the matter to Consumer direct on 0845 4040506 or via the internet on www.consumerdirect.gov.uk.

Never reveal your bank details unless you are absolutely sure who you are giving the details to.

Please be aware of various scam/begging letters and emails that are currently being sent around our area. Please do not respond to them or ring any telephone numbers detailed on the literature.

Neighbourhood Watch

The NPT are keen to have every household in Silsden covered by a Neighbourhood Watch scheme. If you are interested in setting up a scheme or would like further information please contact the NPT. Neighbourhood Watch schemes are an excellent tool in the prevention of crime and act as an invaluable source of information for the police.

Community Speedwatch

Police Community Support Officers, alongside local volunteers, have been conducting Speedwatch in the local area. Anyone caught exceeding the speed limit will be sent a warning letter informing them on the error of their ways and advising them that next time it may not just be a warning they receive.
