NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH UPDATE
I am Karen Vezina, Neighbourhood Watch Liaison Officer for the Wakefield Division.
I would like to introduce you to Neighbourhood Watch and provide you with information to enable you to gain confidence in that a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme can generate a sense of community spirit and power to work towards enhancing your quality of life.
*Neighbourhood Watch is the largest voluntary crime prevention group in the country. It was introduced into West Yorkshire in 1985.
*It is an active partnership with the Police, the community and other agencies
Working to reduce crime, disorder, the fear of crime which improves the quality of life and makes communities safer
Through closely working with the Police,Neighbourhood Watch schemes can:
* cut crime and opportunities for crime
* reduce the fear of crime
* assist in the detection and apprehension of criminals through members providing information
* reassure members of the public
* encourage closer and safer communities
* improved communication between the police and scheme members
MY ROLE AS NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH LIAISON OFFICER
* to promote/assist existing neighbourhood watch schemes
* assist and encourage the formation of new schemes
* to be aware of crime patterns within the division and provide regular information to neighbourhood watch co-ordinators
* to act as a liaison officer between the police and neighbourhood watch co-ordinators
