Week Ending 05/09/2010
Last 7 Days CRIME
Burglary: there have been three burglaries in Otley this week. Two houses have been attacked where offenders have snapped the euro profile lock and gained entry. There has also been a garage burglary where offenders have forced a wooden door. Two suspects have been arrested one has been charged and is locked up until court
Vehicle Crime: There have been three thefts from vehicles in Otley this week, on all three occasions victims have left items of property on display including purses wallets and mobile phones. There has not been any arrests yet.
Anything Else of Note
Two men have been issued with Section 59 Notices, in relation to anti-social driving, If found using vehicles again in a similar manner they are liable to have the vehicles removed.

Week Ending 29/08/10
Crime - There have been 4 reported burglaries this week. These have occurred on East View Terrace, where the door has been jemmied, nothing was stolen. Shirley Close, where the patio doors have attempted to be jemmied, no entry was gained.
Bermonsey Mews, the suspect/s have gained entry to the property via an insecure conservatory window and lastly on
St Martins Avenue, where the remote control to the garage has been taken out of the car and used to gain entry via the garage. There have also been 3 reports of theft from motor vehicles; these have occurred on St David’s Road, the vehicle was insecure. A laptop, wallet and binoculars were stolen from within the car. St Martins Field, entry has been gained by unknown means and a Sat Nav has been stolen. Scarborough Road, fog lights have been stolen from a vehicle.
On the 26th on Pool Road a vehicle was stopped by officers as it was marked up on our systems as links to drugs, 2 local males both aged 22 years were searched along with the car, a cannabis grinder was found but no drugs on this occasion.
ASB All local priorities have been patrolled and we are pleased to report a decline in ASB.
There have been several reports of ASB on Weston Drive, we are liaising with West North West Homes and the Anti Social Behaviour Unit regards these incidents. On the 23rd reassurance patrols were out and about on The Broadwalk, numerous residents were spoken with but no reports were received from anyone. On the 29th a Harley Davidson rally took place through Otley, which past without incident. Officers also dealt with an incident at the Car boot where some children were left on their own in a car.
Events PCSO Andrews and PCSOs Harrison plan on holding another session for bike marking in both Otley and Yeadon. They plan on Saturday 9th October for Otley and Saturday 30th October for Yeadon. Further details on location to follow.
PCSO Harrison and Andrews support the local Children's Centre on their Fun Day event, up to 200 people attended and fun was had by all trying on the police equipment and dressing up.
Other
On 26 July the Home Office published a consultation paper "Policing in the 21st Century: Reconnecting Police and the People". The document contains, amongst others, proposals to replace police authorities with a directly elected Police and Crime Commissioner for each force area, with the first elections taking place in May 2012.
West Yorkshire Police Authority members want to include the views of everyone living, studying or working in West Yorkshire in our response to the consultation, which includes those working for the Force. We have developed a short online survey for this purpose. It should just take a couple of minutes to complete.

Week Ending 22/08/10
Last 7 Days CRIME
Burglary:
A burglary took place at a house on Jennetts Crescent where the offender gained entry through an insecure window. A laptop computer, alcohol and cigarettes were taken. Enquiries are continuing.
Premises at Dawson’s Yard were also targeted during the day where an item of electrical equipment was stolen.
A house was also burgled at the Oval where the offenders gained entry by unknown means at the rear of the house. Personal items were stolen.
Vehicle Crime:
An arrest was made at Kineholme Drive following a motor vehicle being taken without the owners consent.
A vehicle was interfered with at Grove Mill Court overnight. Nothing was taken and damage was caused to the point of entry.
Anything Else of Note
A male was arrested following a theft of goods from a shop in Otley.
A further male was issued with a caution after he was found to be in possession of some illegal substance.
ASB Section / PACT Priority update
The PACT priorities have been patrolled on a daily basis and anti-social behaviour calls have been very few in number.
Cash Windfall Up For Grabs to Tackle Local Issues

Work to prevent crime and disorder will be boosted by the West Yorkshire Police Community Trust.
The Community Trust has funds of up to £2,500 up for grabs in its latest grants round and gives local community/voluntary groups the chance to apply for funding to support their valuable work in addressing the priorities identified by local communities.

Week Ending 15/08/10
Burglary:
A Burglary on West Chevin Road where the Offender/s have taken time to cut through several thick chains to gain entry. Several Generators were then stolen. a second on Granville mount via insecure living room window.
Vehicle Crime: None Reported.
Anything Else of Note:
A Robbery occurred on Westgate in Otley where the victim was pushed over from behind and then property stolen.
Alcohol has been seized from a group of youths who were sighted on the playing fields off Manor Street.
£80.00 fix penalty notice for disorder issued at Garnetts paper mill. £50.00 fix penalty notice issued for drinking on the street issued to an individual outside the Ring O Bells public House.
*Note* The Pubs through out Otley have been visited by the Police in relation to the designated public place order which means people can not have open vessels of alcohol in the stated area.

We have attended several calls on the Weston Estate and Market Street. However no youths have been present on our arrival. Town Centre St Martins Field and the Broadwalk patrolled no issues.

AIMS
- Reduce Opportunities for crime and vandalism
- Strengthen community spirit so that everyone plays their part in protecting their property.
- Report of suspicious incidents as they occur.
- Improve two-way communication between farmers and the police.
- To introduce early warning systems in farming and rural areas.
- Reduce the fear of crime.
What is Farm Watch?
It is a partnership between the farming community and the police to encourage vigilance and communication. Intelligence is a vital tool in crime reduction and members of the public can assist by providing information no matter how trivial it may seem. If a pattern arises as a result of the information received we can then act upon this and address the issue. By communicating with each other we can help to prevent many crimes from happening in the first place, thus making the community a safer and more crime free area.

HOW CAN I HELP

- Send information text messages about criminal activity in your area.

- Place FARM WATCH signs in your area.
- Offer warning stickers as a deterrent.
- Hold a contact point at Otley Farmers Market (Monday) where ideas and concerns can be addressed.
- Give you direct contact to your local Police Community Support Officer.
- Target Police activity to any given problem area.

Local officers are using the Speed Indication (SID) Device in an effort to tackle the speeding issue’s that we have in our community. The aim is to re-educate drivers about the dangers of speeding as well as addressing residents concerns about inappropriate speed and to improve the quality of life for local residents.
SID is a portable device that can be deployed by officers to any location within our area. The device works by assessing the oncoming vehicle’s speed indicating with either a happy or unhappy face to whether the driver is driving at the correct speed. The device also shows the actual speed that the vehicle is travelling at. Officers then record any vehicle that is driving over the relevant speed bracket. These drivers are then dealt with appropriately.
Community Speed watch is a great way for North West Outer NPT to work together with communities to target these concerns and it gives residents the opportunity to get actively involved in helping to make the roads safer.
If you would like to join one of your local Officers to undertake a Speed watch Operation, or would like to nominate an area for us to do this, then please get in touch.
SID has been deployed at the following locations during June:
11/06/10- Farnley Lane- 40 vehicles dealt with appropriately
30/06/10- Pool Road- 5 vehicles dealt with appropriately
Officers will continue to deploy SID at the above location and also on Bradford Road, Newall Carr Road, East Chevin Road and Farnley Lane. These are the main locations that local residents have expressed their concerns regarding speeding in Otley.
Update WC 12/07/10
The Speed Indication Device has been deployed recently on Pool Road where a number of offenders were caught speeding.
A further visit to this location is to be made on Monday 12th July.
Update W/C 19/7/10
SID has been deployed on Pool Road this week to warn drivers of the speed limit along that stretch of road. Traffic officers have also patrolled the Otley Area to combat local speeding issues.
Update W/C 02/08/10
The Speed Indication Device was deployed last week on Pool Road. A total of 32 vehicles had there details taken and the drivers contacted .

SID deployed Farnley Lane and 29 letters issued. SID deployed Pool Road and 41 letters issued.
Week Ending 22/08/10
The Speed Indication Device was deployed this week on Pool Road where 33 vehicles were caught over the speed limit.

Although things generally are looking really good I am increasingly worried about the behaviour of many people in our area. In Otley we have seen an increase in burglaries, if anyone has any idea as to who is responsible then please ring in and let us know. We are really trying our best and this month already we have made 5 arrests, last month we charged one young man with burglaries and he has been remanded in custody pending sentencing. What worries me is that decent honest folk are letting us all down. I know you have heard this before from me but over half of the house burglaries in Otley the thief just climbed or walked through an open window or door. I often worry when people tell me they think the worse thing that could happen to them is being murdered in their beds while they sleep. I know and I hope you know the likelihood of this happening is very, very, very low..............................having said that, maybe it isn't if people go to bed and leave their windows open and their doors unlocked ?
Similarly in the Guiseley area we have seen an increase in cars being broken into. I say being broken into but actually that's not always correct. In the last four weeks there have been twelve offences, but in six of these the car was unlocked and in three cases there was expensive property left on view in the car!!! Again if anyone has any information about who is doing this or who is selling stolen goods then let us know but please, please lock your cars up every time you leave them and never leave property in a vehicle, even in the boot or hidden away. No one in their right mind would leave a hundred pounds in cash on the dash board of their car would they? You would be surprised how many people leave a Sat Nav worth the same or more on show in their vehicle!!!

Community Payback
The Courts in Leeds sentence offenders to 3000 hours
Community Payback every month. Small groups of offenders, supervised by the Probation Service will be working on community initiatives in your area. These initiatives will be chosen by you at PACT meetings. It can be anything from litter picking and graffiti removal to painting an old people’s home.
