By Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent Allan Doherty

The new Airedale and North Bradford division has now been in place just over six months and is quickly establishing itself as one of the best performing divisions in West Yorkshire. The top priority for all divisions is to increase public confidence in local policing and to increase the satisfaction levels for users of our services. I am delighted to report that Airedale and North Bradford is achieving its targets in both these key areas and is exceeding the confidence target by the biggest margin of any division in the force.

Most of this local confidence stems from the strong Neighbourhood policing teams that we have put in place in our local communities. The six teams are each headed by an experienced inspector and are based at local stations at Ilkley, Keighley, Bingley, Shipley and Eccleshill. These teams are given vital support by uniform patrol staff and CID officers who work from our two main operating centres at Keighley and Eccleshill. They in turn receive support from the force departments which assist in many of the complex and serious incidents that we have to deal with from time to time.

The division is currently focusing its efforts on reducing crime in particular burglary of dwellings. Our analysis tells us that we can expect an increase in crime as the dark nights arrive and in the run up to the Christmas period. In anticipation of this we have planned a number of proactive operations which we hope will reduce crime over this period and in turn further increase the public confidence in the service we provide.
