The Calderdale district has a total population of approximately 191,000 with the minority ethnic communities comprising 10% of the total population.
The district comprises of the mainly semi-rural Upper Valley (Hebden Bridge and Todmorden) and the urban Lower Valley (Brighouse and Elland) with Halifax being the largest township and commercial centre. In addition there are many smaller communities spread throughout the Upper Valley, all of whom have their own distinct identities and policing needs.
Throughout the district there is mixed housing provided by the local authority, social landlords and private ownership. The largest estates are in North Halifax, which is generally recognised as the most socially deprived area in the district, although there are small pockets of similarly deprived areas throughout the district.

Welcome to the Neighbourhood Policing Team website for Calderdale.
Neighbourhood Policing is a top priority for us and vital to the work of your police in Calderdale and the service we provide to you. It has three aims -
- To provide dedicated and accountable teams with local ownership, - An intelligence-led targeting of the problems that matter most to local people, - To take joint action with the police, partner agencies and the public working together.
In Calderdale we have four Neighbourhood Policing Teams (NPT’s). Each team is led by an experienced Inspector and a team of Sergeants and all staff – Police Officers, Police Community Support Officers and other support staff - work towards providing the best possible service to you.
By using this site you will be able to identify who is in your NPT, how to contact them, who the Inspector is leading your NPT and what action the team is taking to tackle local priorities and to reduce crime and disorder in your area.
As part of the Policing Pledge, each NPT is consulting the public to agree up to three top priorities for each community, based on what you tell us you want to see happen. So, for example, if you feel that anti social behaviour in the local park should be a local priority for your NPT to address, then let us know, or if you feel that a local priority should be stopping motorists driving too fast along your road then get in touch.
Each NPT holds regular public meetings (called ‘Police And Community Together’) meetings, where you can come along, find out what has been done to tackle recent local priorities and tell us your new concerns. This is my personal invitation to everyone to attend and tell us what you want to see happen.
You will find details of when and where your next PACT meetings are on each NPT site, outside Police Stations and at other locations around your community such as Post Offices and Libraries.
NPT’s are there to help. Please work with them and when you see an officer out and about on patrol why not take a minute to chat to them and tell them what concerns you. Only by working with you can we expect to make a real difference to you and your local community.
