Appeal: Assault, Dale Lane- Heckmondwike

Police are appealing for witnesses to an assault on a taxi driver which occurred at around 2:30am yesterday morning.

The driver had picked up a fare to Dale Lane in Heckmondwike. Once he arrived at the location a number of men approached the vehicle and demanded cash.

The driver was subsequently assaulted and taken to hospital for treatment to a suspected broken jaw.

It is believed that three men were involved in the attack.

DC Paul Hutchinson is investigating the incident and said:

"This was a cowardly attack on an elderly male providing a valuable service for the public.

"I urge anyone with any information to contact the police to help bring the attackers to justice. You can call Dewsbury CID on (01924) 431095 or Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111."
