A Halifax man has been fined for wasting police time after falsely claiming to have been robbed.
The 18-year-old told police he had been robbed during the early hours of Sunday 25th October.
Officers took a statement from the man and discovered inconsistencies in what he claimed to have happened.
He was then arrested and given an £80 penalty notice for wasting police time.
Detective Inspector Tony Nicholson of Calderdale CID, said:
“Making a false allegation to the police is a serious offence. I hope this serves as a lesson to those who make such false reports.”
“Reports of robbery are taken very seriously in Calderdale and are thoroughly investigated. People making false claims waste the time of officers when they could have been investigating a genuine crime.”
