Appeal: Witness Sought Over Otley Bag Snatch

Tuesday, November 3, 2009

Police in Otley are appealing for information following an incident where thieves grabbed an 82-year-old woman’s handbag from her walking frame.

At about 11am on Monday (2/11), the victim was in Daisy Mays card shop, in Market Place, when a woman distracted her by asking her to read the greeting on a card.

During this she felt her walking frame move and noticed her bag was missing. She then saw a second woman holding her bag. She dropped it on the floor of the shop when challenged by the victim.

Both women ran out of the shop towards Manor Square and were seen to get into a black Honda Civic estate.

Officers have spoken to some witnesses but also want to trace anyone else who witnessed the incident. They are particularly keen to speak to a witness who passed details of the car’s registration to staff at the shop but did not leave their details.

That person or anyone with any information is asked to contact Detective Constable Simon Heathcote at Otley police station on 01274 471462.
