School pupils in Huddersfield are putting their artistic talents to the test in a bid to keep their communities safe this Christmas.
A competition run by the Huddersfield South Neighbourhood Policing Team has been set up which asks them to create a design around crime prevention.
The best design from each school will then be put forward before a final judging panel and the winning entry will be transformed into a Christmas card.
Sergeant Rachel Bairstow of the Huddersfield South Neighbourhood Policing Team said:
“The winning entry which is made into a Christmas card will be distributed to households throughout the Huddersfield South area throughout the festive period.
"The back of the card will have a list of crime prevention tips for the householder.
“We want the children to try and encapsulate a crime prevention message within their design that will remind local residents to keep their properties secure and to stay safe.
“It also needs to be something colourful and eye-catching that represents this particular time of year.
“The Huddersfield South Neighbourhood Policing Team is dedicated to tackling priority issues such as burglary and this is one way that we can raise people’s attention to their own home security.
“It is also a great opportunity for the Neighbourhood Policing Team officers to engage with the young people involved in the competition. It is likely that they will see the officers on patrol in the streets and we want to encourage a positive relationship.
“The junior school pupils from nursery right through to 11 years old will be taking part in the competition and we will be considering all levels of entry on their own merits.
“All the entries must be submitted by Tuesday 17 November to give time to produce the cards for Christmas.”
