Motorways are one of the most dangerous environments in the country and West Yorkshire Police's Motorway Unit covers one of the UK's busiest networks. One fo the Unit's main concerns is keeping this network running efficiently and effectively.
Making sure that the Unit is equipped and able to fulfil this essential function is a key element in this highly responsible role. You will co-ordinate the resources of the Force Motorway Unit and Roads Policing Support team, as well as developTraffic Management within the Force in association with partner agencies. Whilst very much a managerial role, you will also have supervisory involvement in Incident and Investigation Management.
Already an Inspector, you must have an inherent interest in road policing and traffic management and be keen to make a real difference to the performance and standards of both the service and its staff. Good people managemnet and motivational skills are essential, as is previous experience of Roads Policing and a basic knowledge of current West Yorkshire Police Road Policing Policy. You must also be willing to complete an Advanced Driving course, if you have not already done so.

Based at the Training and Development Centre, you will be the internal and external face of our Driver Training facility, acting as the main contact and source of expert information on driver training matters.
Ensuring that our training provision meets operational needs, you will manage departmental budgets as well as planning and preparing for future training requirements. You will also set and monitor quality standards, making sure students are trained in a safe manner and environment, and that the quality of the training and testing is consistent.
Currently an Inspector and ideally holding an Advanced driving permit, you must have a good background in managing people and budgets, and be able to undertake relevant NVQ units. Some knowledge of relevant ACPO policies and previous experience as a Traffic Law Trainer/Driver or other training skills would be desirable.
