Policy Statements

Please click on the Policy Statements from the list in the menu to the left.

West Yorkshire Police Policy Statements outline the principles that direct and influence the Force in its day to day activities. They identify how we will:
  • act, within the law, to provide a service to the communities of West Yorkshire;
  • deal with members of the public;
  • behave towards our colleagues;
  • exhibit and uphold the ethics of the organisation;
  • work in partnership with other agencies; and
  • make the most of our resources as well as account for their use
We are required by law to make our Policy Statements accessible to the public. For this reason, members of the public can access them through this site.

If you need more information about a specific Policy, there is a section at the bottom of each Statement giving contact details for the person in the Force who will be able to help you. If you have a general enquiry about Force Policy, you should ring 0845 6060606 and ask to be put through to the Policy Unit.

Given the broad scope of police work, the Force has many Policy Statements. However, there will still be times when we are called to deal with an incident that is not covered specifically by a Policy Statement. On these occasions, staff will be expected to exercise initiative, professionalism, and common sense.
