PNLD (Police National Legal Database)www.pnld.co.uk is the leading national police information resource of criminal justice legislation and is governed West Yorkshire Police.

Relied upon by all 43 Home Office police forces, PNLD is a comprehensive criminal law resource and a critical tool to ensure that anyone with a duty to investigate or prosecute offences can apply the law correctly. 

As a criminal justice professional, PNLD know how vital it is to apply the law appropriately. Knowing precisely what can be done when pursuing an investigation is equally as important as knowing what you cannot do. PNLD will help to support the Police Service in making those challenging decisions.

PNLD create the national standard offence wordings and codes used throughout the court and criminal justice system of England and Wales and have over 25 years’ experience in supporting the Police Service. PNLD contains legislation with helpful explanations and guidance, relevant summarised case law and national standardised offence wordings and codes. Our explanatory notes and clear, everyday language are key factors to the success of PNLD. PNLD’s uniquely user friendly and readily assimilated style, helps you to locate, understand and apply the law.

PNLD is available on subscription to all criminal justice professionals. The legal database supports the operational and training activities of law enforcement customers including BTP, NCA, HMRC and other regulatory authorities including Trading Standards. PNLD is used by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to assist them with charging decisions. Many accredited training delivery centres and academic institutions make use of the database to support their requirements.

Ask the Police, www.askthe.police.uk contains nationally consistent answers to over 850 of the most frequently asked questions posed to the police.

The site has proved so successful that a version for Police Scotland has been created and can be found at: www.askthe.scottish.police.uk.

An Ask the Police app has been developed and can be downloaded free from the App Store and Google Play.
