Trialling new Uniform for Women
West Yorkshire Police is trialling a new uniform for women.
It's a tunic with a looser and longer fit, including full sleeves. It has been
designed not to show the female form to encourage people from under represented groups to consider a career in policing.
PC Firzana Ahmed has been trialling the tunic, which has received very positive feedback from communities and officers alike.
ACC Angela Williams said
“I hope this uniform will encourage people from under-represented groups to consider a career in policing if they had previously been put off joining the force due to the uniform.
“We are open to suggestions from all communities on how our uniform can be styled to better suit their needs".
The video on Facebook recieved good public engagement online, with 46 shares and nearly 200 "likes". Some of the positive feedback is below:
"I like it a lot! Easy to move in, practical and doesn't show off the female form as much as previous. A comfy police officer is much better then a restricted one".
"Looks smart and practical. I can also see non-muslim officers wanting to wear it".
