Unity is a three year project, working with a combination of partners from all over the EU. The vision of the project is to strengthen the connection between the police and their communities.

To achieve our vision, the Unity project is:

  • Gaining best practices for cooperation between police and their communities
  • Developing a communication tool to strengthen and speed up the communication between members of the community and the police
  • Designing, developing and delivering training including awareness activities about Community Policing

Unity seeks innovative ways working of working with citizens, police and community stakeholders which will serve as a catalyst for change within communities. Unity will allow citizens and community stakeholders to become an integral part of the Community Policing model. This Community Policing model will have community trust and confidence at its heart with the ability for two-way flows of information and communication to allow for greater understanding of the problems and issues faced by communities.

The Unity project is made up of different organisations from 15 different European Union countries including the West Yorkshire for Innovation (WyFi) team who are part of the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner. These partners are from universities, businesses and other local police forces from around Europe, who have joined together to help improve community policing through the Unity project.
