Our Standards - Foreword

Chief Constable John RobinsForeword from the Chief Constable John Robins

The introduction of a Code of Ethics for the police service in England and Wales is an important milestone, setting out the principles and standards of behaviour expected of everyone working in policing.

I believe West Yorkshire Police is an ethical organisation and that we all work to uphold those principles each and every day.

In adopting the Code, we are formally demonstrating our total commitment to upholding those standards.

The Code has been developed within the service by the College of Policing and is applicable to everyone within policing; police officers, PCSOs, special constables, police staff and volunteers.

It provides a framework to help us make difficult decisions and judgements consistently and ethically.

That’s why it sits at the heart of the National Decision Model.

It encourages professional discussion and ensures that those who challenge unethical or unprofessional behaviour will be supported.

The Code clearly sets the standards that we must adhere to, helping us to keep our communities safe.

Thank You.
