New Process to Help Repeat Victims of Anti-Social Behaviour in Bradford

Repeat victims of anti-social behaviour (ASB) in the Bradford District are to have a greater say in how their complaints are handled.

The Anti-social Behaviour Review process will allow for those who have made three separate complaints about anti-social behaviour in the last six months to have their cases reviewed by the Bradford District Anti-Social Team.

The team, which includes West Yorkshire Police, Bradford Council and registered social landlords will then consider a formal review, which could lead to recommendations being made to the lead agency on how it can be better handled.

The new initiative has been launched in Bradford this week (July 14) as part of the district's Tackling Anti-Social Behaviour Week 2014, following its launch by the Government as part of its Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014.

Superintendent Vince Firth, head of Partnerships at Bradford District Police, said:

"Anti-social behaviour often causes distress and upset in communities, and we are committed to working closely with our partners in Bradford District to make sure that offenders are dealt with and incidents are reduced.

"Incidents of anti-social behaviour have continued to fall this year in the district, but we want to see bigger reductions and hope that the Anti-social Behaviour Review process will play a part in helping us to achieve this."

Councillor Imran Hussain, deputy leader of Bradford Council and chair of the Community Partnership, said:

"We are committed to reducing anti-social behaviour for our residents across the district as we know how distressing it can be for many.  We hope that the Anti-social Behaviour Review will help to reduce incidents of anti-social behaviour in the district.”

Mark Burns Williamson, the Police and Crime Commissioner for West Yorkshire, said:

“I often hear about the negative impact that anti-social behaviour has on people’s quality of life, and believe Tackling Anti-Social Behaviour Together Week and all the great projects in Bradford, created with partners, will ensure we help raise awareness in keeping communities safe and feeling safe, which is the key theme of the Police and Crime Plan for West Yorkshire.

“The Anti-social Behaviour Review is one aspect of tackling cases affecting victims and communities, and the Community Safety Partnerships are already doing fantastic work around helping those victims whose lives are blighted by Anti-Social Behaviour.”
