Alexa, what's in the news?
West Yorkshire Police's latest news and appeals are available through Amazon's intelligent personal assistant 'Alexa'. Alexa can read the latest news headlines through Amazon's home automation devices and smart speakers, such as the Amazon Echo and the Echo Dot.
The voice activated app uses what is known as a 'flash briefing skill', meaning after setting up the skill through an app, the public can 'ask Alexa' to read the latest news, and their device will read the latest news headlines, direct from a feed from the West Yorkshire Police website.
The system then takes an automated news feed direct from the West Yorkshire Police website, giving users hourly updates on the latest news headlines in West Yorkshire.
Within the dedicated Alexa app a link is also provided to allow the user to read more about the each of the news headlines they've just heard read on their Amazon device.
How to get West Yorkshire Police Latest News and Appeals on your Amazon device
- Firstly you'll need the Amazon Alexa app on your smartphone or tablet.
- Next, go to the menu and select "skills"
- Type "West Yorkshire Police" into the search bar:
- The search results will bring back our Alexa skill, titled "West Yorkshire Police News and Appeals".
- Click on the title.
- Click to "enable" the "Flash Briefing".
Once enabled, you can then 'Ask Alexa' to read out the latest news headlines by saying one of the following;
"Alexa, what's my Flash Briefing?"
or
"Alexa, what's in the news?"
