Cub Scouts Crime Prevention Occasional Badge
The Crime Prevention Occasional Badge has been produced by West Yorkshire Police and the University of Huddersfield. Its content has been shaped by Cubs and Leaders from both West and Central Yorkshire Scouts. It aims to engage, educate and empower Cubs in relation to the importance of crime prevention - specifically the prevention of domestic burglary and ensuring their safety when online. It also seeks to remind young people how and when to call the police.
There are 5 key activities that need to be completed by each Cub to be awarded the Crime Prevention Occasional Badge.
A copy of the Leaders' pack, which includes information about these activities and accompanying worksheets, is available to download here.
- Activity 1: Stop the Burglar!
- Activity 2: Designing a Crime Prevention Message
- Activity 3: Conducting an 'Out and About Environmental Assessment'
- Activity 4: App & Game Awareness!
(Useful resources: NSPCC Share Aware, ThinkUKnow, GetSafeOnline) - Activity 5: "Hello, West Yorkshire Police"
(Useful resources: When and How to Contact the Police Leaflet, WYP Inappropriate Calls)
We'd love to receive your feedback on this dedicated Crime Prevention Occasional Badge! Please use the hashtag #CubsPreventCrime in any social media posts. When you've completed all the activities, we're keen to hear what Cubs, Leaders, Parents and Carers:
- have learnt;
- now do differently and
- whether the resource has changed attitudes and beliefs around crime prevention.
Please send any feedback to Dr Leanne Monchuk (Senior Lecturer in Criminology & Policing at the University of Huddersfield): [email protected].
