Guidelines explaining the responsibilities of both organisers and the police at public events.
Special Police Services (SPS) is the provision by the police of an additional special service i.e. beyond that which the police would consider necessary to meet their public duty obligations, and which is provided at the request of organising bodies of certain events and for which the organising body must pay.
Recruitment Events - We are currently under-represented by people from Ethnic Minority backgrounds and so are encouraging people from these groups to apply to become Police Officers or members of Police Staff. If you are from one of these groups please use the links on this page to sign up for one of our online events - to find out more about the roles and for information on how to apply. (Career Discovery Workshops / Career Discovery Events)
The organiser should notify the Local Authority, Fire, Police and Ambulance service about the event and earnestly consider any recommendations made by these services during the planning of the event.  Regular meetings should be arranged as necessary by the Organiser.
An information film that provides advice on the steps to take to keep safe in the event of a firearms or weapons attack has been released to the public
Background information and best practice for event planning can be found in the following HSE publications.  Event planners should be conversant with the contents.
We are committed to delivering an open and transparent service wherever possible and it is our intention to publish information in our Publication Scheme that the public have an interest in viewing.
Publication Strategies
Within West Yorkshire Police there are Police Officers and Support Staff who form the dedicated Child and Public Protection Unit.
Indoor and outdoor street scenes with actual buildings will bring to life public order training from front line tactics to command decision making.
Personal Safety - Using Public Transport Or Taxis
Officers from Rural Neighbourhood Policing Team will be holding a Community Event for parents to bring their young children to come and meet local Officers, try on uniforms and learn more about what the Police do and how they keep us safe.
The organisation of a public event is a considerable responsibility.  In addition to attracting moral and social responsibilities, organisers have civil, common and criminal law responsibilities for which they may have to answer to the courts.
It is the responsibility of the event organisers to create their own contingency plans that dovetail into the pre-existing contingency plans of emergency services together with any event specific plans that may have been created by them.
West Yorkshire Police has an internal magazine for its staff and retired police officers. The Force does not publish or distribute any other emergency services publications.
