We received a request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA):

What is the response time for someone who they fear is in danger of taking their own life?

Our Response:

The response time would be in line with our highest possible grading – Emergency, which dictates a response of no more than 15 minutes.

Each incident is risk assessed upon its own merits, and in exceptional circumstances there may be factors which mean there is a lower response. Furthermore, in line with our Welfare Policy with partners (i.e. Ambulance, Mental Health teams) in some circumstances other agencies are the more appropriate one to deal and details are passed to them immediately for their expeditious attendance rather than the Police. This is also in line with the “Right Care, Right Person” policy being recommended nationally by the College of Policing.
