Firearms Licensing - The primary objectives of the West Yorkshire Police Firearms Licensing department are to; Protect public safety by preventing foreseeable or avoidable harm, Deliver an efficient licensing process that is proportionate, rigorous, cost effective, fair and timely and Provide a fair and transparent service to the public.
Three firearms ranges will allow live fire training and exercises supported by the latest technology.
The West Yorkshire Police Firearms, Shot Guns and Explosives Licensing Unit is based at Police Headquarters in Wakefield and is responsible for managing all aspects of the licensing of firearms and explosives including the issue of certificates, gun clubs, firearms dealers and permits within the West Yorkshire Police area.

Monday November 20, 2023 Detectives investigating the murder of a woman in Dewsbury on Sunday night have now arrested a man.  The Homicide and Major Enquiry Team continues to investigate the incident which took place on Dearnley Street in Ravensthorpe.
