Benefits of Working for West Yorkshire Police

When you join West Yorkshire Police, you can expect a career with variety, challenges, rewards, and great learning opportunities and experiences.

There are a wide range of benefits available to those employed by West Yorkshire Police.  These can vary depending on the role, so please check the individual adverts for the role you’re thinking of applying for, but generally they fall into two categories; Police Officers and Police Staff.

Police Officers

We will offer you:

  • As a full-time PC you'll get 22 days paid annual holiday, rising to 30 days a year depending on your length of service. This is on top of public holidays and an average of two rest days each week.

  • Fully funded degree/diploma upon completion of the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA) or Degree Holder Entry Programme (DHEP) entry route into policing. Whichever route you choose, you will be employed as an officer from day one and ‘earn while you learn.’

  • Part-time working - Police officers may be able to work part time. As a general rule, the same terms and conditions will apply to part-time officers as apply to fulltime officers, where appropriate on a pro rata basis. Officers working part time will not be exempt from working shifts - including night duties.

  • Enhanced maternity and paternity leave and potential for a career break (after one year’s continuous service).

  • Police Pension Scheme - When you start as a new Police Officer, you'll automatically become a member of the New Police Pension Scheme 2015. This is a Career Average Revalued Earnings (CARE) pension scheme which offers a guaranteed pension with an optional lump sum, based on the earnings you receive during your career and adjusted if you take early retirement.

Both you and West Yorkshire Police will contribute and you will receive tax relief on the contributions you make. If you already have a pension, it may be possible to transfer this into the police scheme. For more details: www.myownpension.co.uk
