Selection process and training

These are the steps that you need to successfully complete in order to become a Police Community Support Officer.

  • Application

  • Assessment

  • Interview

  • Pre-employment checks

Your application will undergo an initial check to confirm you meet our eligibility criteria, if it does, it will progress to the next stage which is the assessment.

If you succeed at the assessment process, you will be invited to attend an interview where you will be asked several competency and values questions. Following success at this stage you will enter pre-employment checks.

If all of these checks are clear, you will be recommended for appointment in one of the Force's five districts.

All applicants must meet the necessary vetting requirements but should be aware that it is not always possible to carry these out on persons who have not been resident within the UK for the last three years. In these instances, applicants may be refused, where it is not possible to vet them to the appropriate standard.
