Police Officer recruitment is changing

In line with the national Police guidance, all entry routes for new Police Officers requires them to complete a degree apprenticeship or post-graduate diploma in professional policing practice. Both of these new entry routes offer the opportunity to specialise in core policing roles, such as conducting investigations and community policing, in the final year of the programmes.

 

Police Constable Degree Apprenticeships

The three year degree programme will be made up of classroom based and ‘on the job’ learning at Leeds Trinity University and West Yorkshire Police Learning and Development Centre, Carr Gate, Wakefield.   

Apprentices will be paid while they learn and the minimum starting salary will be £20,879. 

On completion of the programme, you will have achieved a degree in Professional Policing Practice from Leeds Trinity University.

To apply you will need to:

  • Be 18 years old or over.  There is no upper age limit
  • Have a Level 2 Qualification in Maths and English (equivalent to GCSE grade A-C or Level 4 or above)
  • Have a Level 3 Qualification or experience as a Special Constable or PCSO
  • Have no criminal convictions (minor offences will be considered on an individual basis)
  • Meet our attendance standard
  • Be able to pass the job related fitness test
  • Comply with the Force tattoo policy
  • Pass the police vetting checks

 

Degree Holder Entry Programme

Recruitment for the Degree Holder Entry Programme is expected to open later this year.

This programme is aimed at existing degree holders, in any subject area. It takes two years to complete a work based programme, supported by classroom based learning, jointly provided by Leeds Trinity University and West Yorkshire Police at the Learning and Development Centre, Carr Gate, Wakefield.   

On successful application you will be a police officer and will spend two years as a probationer.

The starting salary will be £24,176.

On completion of the programme you will have achieved a graduate diploma in Professional Policing Practice from Leeds Trinity University.

To apply you will need to:

  • Be 18 years old or over.  There is no upper age limit
  • Have a Level 2 Qualification in Maths and English (equivalent to GCSE grade A-C or Level 4 or above)
  • Have a Level 6 degree qualification or equivalent.
  • Have no criminal convictions (minor offences will be considered on an individual basis)
  • Meet our attendance standard
  • Be able to pass the job related fitness test
  • Comply with the Force tattoo policy
  • Pass the police vetting checks
