Positive Action is the phrase we use for how we attract, develop, and retain talent from underrepresented groups in society. It’s a set of initiatives under the Equality Act 2010 which promotes equal opportunity. Positive Action is sometimes misunderstood. It’s not about lowering standards or giving someone an unfair advantage; it’s abou getting everyone to the same starting line, so they have equal opportunity.

Are you ready to be a Police Officer? If you are looking for an exciting and fulfilling career where no two days are ever the same, then why not consider joining West Yorkshire Police?
West Yorkshire Police is committed to achieving a workforce that is representative of the communities we serve, and in doing so, we encourage individuals from minority groups and communities to engage with our recruitment and progression opportunities, as permitted within UK employment equality legislation.
Recruitment Events - We are currently under-represented by people from Ethnic Minority backgrounds and so are encouraging people from these groups to apply to become Police Officers or members of Police Staff. If you are from one of these groups please use the links on this page to sign up for one of our online events - to find out more about the roles and for information on how to apply. Every year, we produce a report called a ‘Pay Gap Report’ which shares the details of our gender and ethnicity pay gap data. We fully understand the importance of sharing information about our pay gap, along with the action we are taking to address it and the steps we are taking to 'close the gap'. We are ever conscious of our need to improve diversity and create an inclusive environment where all individuals feel equally valued.

As part of a dedicated team, you will be responsible for ensuring that the correct Police response is allocated to jobs that come in via our call handlers. This can be an emergency-based response or one that requires slower time handling, in either case your responsibility will be to assess risk and come up with a solution. You will be responsible for identifying and assessing risk and making resolution and deployment decisions using a range of systems. You will also allocate resources to incidents and support them in any radio transmissions.
