We are seeking suitably qualified (OSPRE or NPPF) Constables wanting promotion to Sergeant or Detective Sergeant and existing Sergeants/Detective Sergeants wishing to level transfer as Sergeants or Detective Sergeants.

Please note that candidates who are successful in their application for the Detective Sergeant role will be required to undertake and pass the National Investigators Exam (NIE) as part of the Professionalising Investigations Programme (PIP) before being promoted/posted to a Detective Sergeant role.


During the application process, you will be invited to indicate your preferences for subsequent posting. Please note that every consideration will be given to your preferences but ultimate posting will be in accordance with organisational need.

The assessment process will be held in November 2022.

Candidates will be expected to submit an application form evidencing the Competency and Values Framework (CVF) Level 2, which will be subject to a rigorous short-listing process.  The subsequent process will comprise a presentation and interview.  Further details in relation to this will be provided in due course.  However, it should be noted that the Competency and Values Framework (CVF) will be applied to all areas of the selection process.

Important Candidate Information

During the application process, candidates will complete an application form which is restricted to a specific word count.  

During the assessment process, promotion candidates will have a specific time period during which they will prepare a presentation topic, using flip charts to assist their presentation. They will then deliver the presentation, which is timed. Immediately after this, the interview will commence.  

Should anyone consider that they have a disability including a specific learning difficulty, for example, dyslexia, which might cause them to be disadvantaged during the application and/or assessment process as described above, please would they advise by completing the section on the application form. The application form should then be submitted, together with copies of any reports or certificates that relate to the condition (If not submitted before).
