ALL AREAS

You Said....

Kirklees District has received 1430 calls for service regarding off road motorcycles / nuisance vehicles such as quads in 2023 to date.

Similar community complaints have also been echoed within community meetings and via local Councillors in most ward areas.

We Did...

The impact of these issues is acknowledged and recognised by all NPTs across the district and when required, Problem Solving Occurrences have been instigated to co-ordinate policing resources and involve key partners to resolve.

In addition, all NPTs have adopted a new process involving PCSOs re-contacting reporting parties to maximise Intel gathering and reassurance. This has seen good information supporting policing efforts to identify riders and locations where vehicles are stored.

Operation Taskabbey provides 6 specially trained Police off road motorcyclists to support NPTs with deployments in high demand areas on key dates, which has generated additional seizures and prosecutions as published on WYP social media.

Operation Teakshot enhanced the special trained officer footprint using Safer Streets funding to enable bespoke Police deployments and support partnership interventions aimed to tackle bike/quad issues. Again, large numbers of illegal motorcycles and quads have been seized and published on WYP social media. Funding expired in September 2023, but further bids are being sought for future projects of a similar nature.

Across the district in 2023 to date combined policing efforts have resulted in approximately 73 stolen motorcycles being recovered, 139 nuisance bikes/quads being seized, and 9 formal warnings issued under section 29 of the Police Reform Act 2002.
