Friday 11 October, 2019

Detectives are appealing for information about a robbery in Shelley in the early hours of this morning

The incident happened on Friday 11 October just before 1am on the path which runs between Cleveland Way and Park Avenue, close to a housing estate.

The female victim, in her 30s, had been walking home with a friend and she entered the path by herself, as her friend went a different way.

She was approached from behind by a male suspect who assaulted her and stole her purse from her bag before fleeing the scene towards the nearby primary school.

The suspect is described as 5ft 10”, slim build and he was wearing dark blue jeans, a dark cotton hoody and dark trainers.

Police are urging people to come forward if they saw anyone in the area acting suspiciously around the time of the incident.

DC Joanne Jabczynski, of Kirklees CID, said: “The area where the incident took place is a quiet housing estate and local residents may have noticed the male suspect loitering in the area prior to the incident. I would appeal to anyone with any information to come forward and speak to us to assist with our enquiries.

“The victim was injured during the incident and was very shaken up. The items which were taken have are incredibly sentimental to the victim, which has caused her a lot of distress."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Kirklees CID via 101 or via our LiveChat facility on the website quoting crime reference number 13190521595.
