UPDATE: Three Charged With Man's Murder, Brighton Street, Wakefield.

Detectives have charged three men following the death of a man who was found at a house in Wakefield last week.

Police were called to reports of a fire at a house on Brighton Street on Friday 6 September, where the man was found deceased.

He has been named as 42-year-old Jonathan Dews, from Batley (pictured).

Scott Crutchley, 24, of Westgate, Wakefield, Jordan Metcalfe, 24, of Fairland Avenue in Pontefract and Nathan Redmond, 21, of Brighton Street, Wakefield, were all arrested in connection with the incident and now have been charged with murder.

They will appear at Leeds Magistrates court this morning (9 September).

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses and are asking anyone to come forward with any information and in particular if you were in the area and heard any disturbance from the house on Brighton Street or saw any suspicious behaviour.

Three men have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was found dead at a house in Wakefield.

Detectives from West Yorkshire Police Homicide and Major Enquiry Team launched a murder investigation after the 42-year-old man’s body was found at the property in Brighton Street, Wakefield, after emergency services were called to a report a fire at 6am yesterday (6/9).

The three men, one aged 21 and two aged 24, all from the Wakefield area, were arrested in North Yorkshire last night as a result of enquiries. They remain in custody.

A forensic post mortem is being conducted today to establish the cause of the man’s death.

Detective Superintendent Nicola Bryar, of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said: “While the investigation is still at a relatively early stage, we have been able to quickly identify and arrest three suspects.

“We are carrying out extensive enquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding the murder and are still keen to hear from anyone who was in the area and witnessed a disturbance or anything suspicious around the address in Brighton Street, or anyone who has any other information that could assist the investigation.

“The victim’s family have been informed and we have specially-trained officers supported them at this understandably difficult time.”
