Renewed Appeal: Efit, Assault and Robbery, in Cleckheaton

Police are continuing to appeal for any information about a serious assault on an elderly woman in Cleckheaton last week.  

Detectives at Kirklees CID would like to speak with anyone who has any information or recognises the man in the recent Efit photo to assist with their investigation, after a 76-year-old woman was robbed while walking on the Spen Valley Greenway on Monday, May 8. 

The offence took place after the victim, a 76-year-old woman - was approached from behind while walking onto the Greenway after passing the Tesco supermarket. 

She was struck to the back of the head with a hammer by the suspect who then made off with her purse. 

The 76-year-old was taken to hospital for treatment to a head injury and was released from hospital last week.  

The suspect is described as a white man, slim, aged around 60, wearing a woolly bobble hat and glasses. 

Officers are attending in Cleckheaton and on the Greenway today to speak with residents about the incident.

Detective Constable Kris Roberts, of Kirklees CID, said: "We are continuing our investigation to locate the man responsible for this serious offence and would like to speak to anyone who has any further information or who can identify the man in the picture. 

"Anyone who can assist is asked to contact Kirklees CID on 101 referencing crime number 13170207307 and information can also be passed to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."

Police are today issuing an efit of a man they want to speak with in connection with a serious assault on an elderly woman in Cleckheaton. 

Kirklees CID would like to speak with anyone who can help identify the man pictured as enquiries continue after a 76-year-old woman was robbed while walking on the Spen Valley Greenway on Monday, May 8. 

A number of enquiries remain ongoing into the offence which took place after the victim, a 76-year-old woman- was approached from behind while walking onto the Greenway after passing the Tesco supermarket. 

She was struck to the back of the head with a hammer by the suspect who then made off with her purse. 

The 76-year-old was taken to hospital for treatment to a head injury and remained there overnight. The injury is not described as life threatening. 

The suspect who is described as a white man, slim, aged around 60, wearing a woolly bobble hat and glasses. 

Detective Sergeant Dave Taylor, of Kirklees CID, said: "We are conducting a range of enquiries to locate the man responsible for this serious offence and would like to speak ot anyone who can identify the man pictured. 

"We would also like to speak to anyone who may have seen a man matching this description in the town centre just prior to the attack. 

"Anyone who can assist is asked to contact Kirklees CID on 101 referencing crime number 13170207307. 

"Information can also be sent anonymously to the independent Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111."

Police are appealing for information after an elderly woman was seriously assaulted in an incident in Cleckheaton. 

Kirklees CID would like to speak to any witnesses regarding the incident on the Spen Valley Greenway at Cleckheaton at about 2.20pm on Monday May 8. 

It took place after the victim, a 76-year-old woman- was approached from behind while walking onto the Greenway after passing the Tesco Supermarket. 

She was struck to the back of the head with a hammer by the suspect who then made off with her purse. 

The 76-year-old was taken to hospital for treatment to a head injury and remained there overnight. The injury is not described as life threatening. 

A number of enquiries are ongoing today to trace the suspect who is described as a white man, slim, aged around 60, wearing a woolly bobble hat and glasses. 

Detective Inspector Mark Colman of Kirklees CID, said: "This is a very serious incident in which an elderly victim has been struck to the head in a violent attack near to a shopping area. 

"Fortunately the victim was not seriously injured but this assault could easily have had far worse consequences and it is important we locate the man responsible as soon as possible. 

"A number of enquiries are ongoing today, and I would like to speak to anyone who saw a man wearing a bobble hat and glasses in the town centre area, the Greenway or at Cleckheaton bus station just before or after the attack took place. 

"Anyone who can assist is asked to contact Kirklees CID on 101 referencing crime number 13170207307. 

"Information can also be sent anonymously to the independent Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111."
