Appeal: Assault, Canal Tow Path Near Shipley

Police are appealing for information after a man was assaulted in front of family members while walking along the canal tow path between Shipley and Keighley on Boxing Day.

The offence happened between 2.30pm and 2.45pm as the 48-year-old victim was walking with members of his family and their dogs near Saltaire car park. It is reported that another dog started to chase one of the dogs being walked by the victim. The man walking that dog attempted to kick the victim's dog but slipped and fell to the ground. On getting to his feet, the man punched the victim to the face causing facial injuries.

The man is described as white, aged in his late 20s to early 30s, of slender build, with close cropped hair. He was wearing a dark or olive green trench coat and was clean shaven.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area and saw a man matching the suspect's description. Similarly, the man himself is urged to come forward to provide his account of the incident.
